About LMR

The purpose of letsmakerobots.com: To share knowledge, and form a community that encourages development of faster, better, funnier robots.

Already the community has made ground for common development; Ways to do things get's to be common knowledge, methods are spreading, every robot builder is no longer an isolated island - we are in fact building together, even though each developer is making he's own robots.

The word "Friendship" may sound hollow in an online world, where people sit in locations spread all over the world, and never meet. However; Robot developers of a certain kind think alike. It is creative people, it is friendly people, it is cool people.

The chances that your next door neighbor is just as curious about these things, can relate the the coolness of creating life, or have even tried it, are small.

On LMR everybody either build robots, or want to.. and so.. just as it can be debated weather a robot is alive, but it sure can feel that way.. it can be debated if the friendships in here are for real.. but it sure feels that way.

Boiled down: People from all over the world meet to share knowledge, ideas, help each other, show interest in each others projects.. and slowly, but very steady, we are building.. building robots, but also building common ground to stand on to the next robot to be build. And this will again be used to..

And so we are in fact doing more together than we could ever do alone, we are in fact making robots together..

..and that is the purpose of the site :)

letsmakerobots.com (LMR) is private project initiated by Frits Lyneborg "fritsl (4)" in early 2008. LMR is still "supervised" by FL and FL is deciding the over all way to evolve, owns the domain name etc.

However, the community itself is the very site, and apart from fritsl we have these admins and contributors:

  • TheCowGod (101) is hosting the site, and the guy supervising all new code made, and is in fact making most of the new code.
  • Note that TheCowGod and Fritsl never met in real life, and never met before they met on LMR. This is how it is for all; The site exists because of the people entered it, and makes it exist. From content to hosting, to programming & maintainence.
  • Today Pololu, a vendor of robotics hardware, has their catalouge intigrated on LMR. This happend because Pololu - like everyone else in here - by themselves entered the site, and participated. Fritsl thought it would be cool to have their entire catalouge in the site, and so..
  • A developing team of members has a mailinglist. The team consists of anyone who would like to offer their opinion, help on this and that, perhaps even contribute with code. Contact fritsl (4) if you want on the list :)
  • Most importantly; Every user registered and participating are in fact authors, contributors, owners, members of LMR
Thank you for every line of help, every picture, all the cool stuff you guys are making!
