Controlling a plug with an arduino

Turns on and off whatever you connect to it

There are already some great projects on the internet about hacking home automation systems, but what I wanted to do was to control my plugs creatively.

Thats why I decided to do this. To have the most functionalities possible I put a arduino, which I made, inside the plug switch.

How there are a contest on intructables about things related to laser, I decided to add a light sensor to the plug and program it to turn on and off what is connected to it using a laser.

It just compares the last three reads and, if the second value is bigger than the first and the third one, it turns on/off the plug.

If you don't mind please vote on it here, on the beginning of the page where there is a "wicked lasers CONTEST" banner: http://www.instructables.com/id/Turn-on-and-off-your-things-with-a-laser/

If you want to make one as well, here are the schematics and photos:

Nice project and a very clean build.

I understand why you went with laser control for the instructables contest. I think control via an IR remote would be more practical though.

Anyway, thanks for posting this.

This was just the first experiment.

My idea is to keep developing and let my robots control it ;)
