Let's Make Robots!

Mounting brackets for SRF05 (Open letter to Jack / DAGU)

SRF05 is still IMHO the best low-cost distance sensor.

And there is still no good / smart / fancy / easy / pro / cheap way to mount the darn thing on a turning neck / servo / front..

We now have a good contact to DAGU from China who makes cheap and cool robot-stuff.

So.. I thought.. Why don't we make some suggestions to how we would like such a mounting thing(ey) shaped and made? And then ask Jack from DAGU if he could start producing it?

This was my idea.. and now I need your help and ideas towards the design :)

Looks reaaly cool, Oddbot!
Could not have done it without all your research. You are a champ!

This is the 3D model Dagu's engineer has made from our design.

Looks nice, but might move the corners out, so that any screw heads aren't binding against the side. Some of the slots appear a bit close.

Strange I didn't see that in the initial design.

The problem is there are so many sensors on the market and they are all so small. I had considered making the face another 5mm wider but I wanted it to be as small as possible and also the slots extend beyond the widest sensor so nuts and screw heads should clear the sides ok.

I am beginning to see what you are doing here!

It is really nice work! It has turned into the thing that everyone should get a couple off!

Make sure you only sell them in bags of 5(*2), to make sure they appear everywhere (on every picture of every robot), and larger qantity will help keeping a good price for each single one. I would buy 2 such bags as a side order any time I got myself a new sensor! (At least the first time)

PS: Sneak in a letsmakerobots.com along one side ;)

PPS: Tell me where I can buy this?

Since it was your idea, I suspect you will get some free samples. I know Jack wants to sell a sensor mounting kit with the bracket and a servo or two. We'll have to wait and see.

Since I did not contribute, just asked for the product, I cannot claim any ownership! And so I insist on paying like everyone else :)

However, since the work was done by you, and in colaboration by the members of LMR, on LMR, I just think that the product that I will buy would have extra value ("historic") if it had a tag on it, relating to where it came from, Internet that has turned into a tangable bit in my hands.

Heck, would it not be cool if it even had a complete link to this page inprinted on the surface? ( letsmakerobots.com/node/7046 ) That would just be SO sweet!! Yes! Please! We could make more stuff that way, and have links to the origin.

That way people could not only see where it came from, but also see where to meet the designers, and ask them questions and bring in improvements for new series! That would be quite a lot of value added to your product for just an etched link on the surface of the product :)

I just followed it here & got edumacated!

There isn't much room on the bracket considering the faces are full of holes. I will ask Jack but no promises.
