Wb-links - links

It is a crap place that the web-links are - in the web-links, hard to see where to click:

Bot Of The Week

A robot of the week, featured on the front page of the site. Once elected, the logo would be incorporated into the robot's node (with the date of election) so, even after the week has expired, people will know that a particular bot has been bot of the week at one time.

Similar to what Frits said in another post...

Make the START HERE page more of a newbie zone. Here are some tutorials, do them in this order. Here are some general rules (be specific with questions, don't ask for code unless you know your stuff, etc)

jklug80: Would you be the editor of such a page?

I think you would be the best!

Ahh crap suggest something

Ahh crap suggest something and I get to own it ;) What do you mean by editor? Create it from scratch? Maintain it? I can put some time toward it but not a lot. I finish my master's degree in 5 weeks and 2 days later I get married. Summer is a bit busy ;) I can put some time into it just not hours every night.
BaseOverApex's picture

Bloody super.

"Married?" Oh, great. That's the last we'll see of him, Frits.

Thats why I've spent $500+ on robot stuff NOW instead of after August 2nd...

Good planning / timing,

Good planning / timing, though. Seriously. I work like that as well - buy lots of parts while there is doe, and have fun with it when you are broke! (or married)

An email address

An email address jklug80@letsmakerobots.com that forwards email to the email address I used in registration. Charge $20 (a year or every 6 months) for the service. Would anyone jup on this? Could be a way of helping to make the site break even with costs. I wouldn't be overly excited about it sinc eI ahve my own domain and have my email routed thru that, but I would probably do it if it was available just to have the cool email addy.
BaseOverApex's picture

I like the idea!

Like you, I have my own domain and it only costs me $4 a year, so I can't imagine anyone would want to pay more than that. Of course mine is a .org.uk which doesn't have teh same "prestige" as a .co.uk or a .com. So maybe $20 is not that much. Hmmmm....

Also, I doubt the current host would be happy about forwarding a ton of extra traffic.

This is a cracking idea, though: definitely worth persuing.

I was just tossing out a dollar amount. Perhaps people who donate (whatever they feel is appropriate) get the email address for a certain period of time or infinitely.

Thanks a bunch, I think it

Thanks a bunch, I think it is a cool idea. Think if we could even sell shares or something, so people would really feel / understand that this belongs to all of us - but that I cannot see through though.

I will check what's possible regardign the mail address, and return when I have answer(s) :)

Nice thinking!

Perhaps it can come with a LMR branded crack pipe... just a thought.

Yes. A "thought." Hmmm....

Add a max width to the

untitled.jpg

Add a max width to the shoutbox. When someone posts a URL it makes the shoutbox cover up forum posts and such. It should break the URL into 2 lines but instead it makes the shout box wider to allow it to be one line.

...or...

...make a HOWTO on tinyurl.com.

a swap/buy/sell forum part

I would like a swap/sell/buy forum part. Right now we have one thread called "Swappa team", but if we have forum part dedicated to this, then it would get very easy to get an overview, cause you'd just take a look at the different threads headlines e.g. "WTB polymorph" "2 allmost new GM10's for sale" "some small PIC's, want to swap for something bigger" etc.

new comment link breaks when post has too many comments

I'm experiencing problems when I try to use the "# new" (where # denotes some number) link on a post to take me to the newest comment I haven't read. It seems that when there is more than one page of comments I only go to the first page of comments and have to flip pages myself and then don't know which comments are new and which are not.

This has been an issue for as long as I can remember, but I just didn't bother reporting it until now, since I figured someone would fix it sooner or later... au contraire Mr. Bond! Well could be it's only an issue for me.

My wish being: fix it, please :-)

I am experiencing the same problem as jip. Please fix it :)

Same link probs here

I'd wondered why it just got the thread, and not the actual new post on multipage nodes. Any way to fix?
BaseOverApex's picture

Dodgy link

The page http://letsmakerobots.com/view/components/list has a link "Submit new component" which points to http://letsmakerobots.com/view/components/node/add/robot_component which gives "Requested page not found" error. Should point to http://letsmakerobots.com/node/add/robot-component. Not sure how to fix it.

Yes, but no; Problem would

Yes, but no; Problem would be that it would be a very popular place.. and then a lot of good knowledge would not be categorized, and generaly lost.. So we could have the same questions over and over, noone would bother to make walkthroughs etc - because it is so much easier to just chat about it..

:)

with all the spammers, maybe

with all the spammers, maybe we should make it where profiles have to be approved by an admin before they can post. If not, how can I delete spammers? :) I'm bored at work so I can surf the site quite a bit in the downtime.

Delete any post that has the

Delete any post that has the word "s-ohbet" (without the "-") in it! And delete the profile as well.

We are looking at all sorts of optimazation of LMR, to put it short :)

BaseOverApex's picture

HITS

Weird. If I do a search for "s-ohbet" (without the "-") I get about 12 hits, but none of them actually seems to contain the string...
