MURCS - Sneak Preview

Hi,

this is MURCS - Multi Use Robot Construction System. My first self design chassis using laser cutted parts. Today the parts arrived and I have quickly assembled them for a foto shooting.

The neon green chassis looks great.

The design was made with SketchUp, my favorite tool for 3D design. This is a early design using a second platform.

Sketchy businesses -- my 3D parts modelling log...

Well, currently there's not a day that goes by without me reading someone talking about 3D printing, 3D printers and whatnot. Also, I've been reading of how easy SketchUp is to work with, so given my failure to make anything of Blender around almost 10 years ago... I decided to give SketchUp a try.

Note: Newer designs are at the top (for chronological reading start at the bottom of the post)

Gears in Sketchup

In robotics, you  usually want more torque or speed out of your motors.

Hello LMR, here's my first blog entry, and my first ever robot...

Hi there. I've been reading LMR for a while, and have just taken a few baby steps on the way to my first robot, so I thought I'd follow the rules and post a blog entry as a start.

I suppose this may be typical - I've spent a lot of time, probably too much time, pondering what I'm going to use. It's pretty clear that I've reached the "analysis paralysis" stage and can probably go on forever, so it's time to get a few things put together and take it from there.

My initial parts list:

Allow just about any sketchup model to be animated within a real time physics engine
I have seen that many users on LMR use google's free sketchup design software to get a rough overview of the appearance of the complete robot. Did you know though … Read more

Google sketch-up: entering absolute coordinate

ok, i'm trying again with sketch up

now, i want to move an object to an exact location, x,y,z. not just moving it around with the mouse.

how do you do? i read the guide and it says something like entering [x',y',z'] on the value box, but i have a problem with this: for making the brakets [] i have to press the alt button, that automatically interrupts the command so i'm unable to move.

Also, how do you see the exact coordinates an object is ?

thanks
