Micro engineering system LAB X-1

I have two LAB X-1 at home, i had them for like 6 months, and I didn't know what they were, anyway it turns out to be a serial PIC Devboard with LCD and ZIF sockets, I was just looking to get an AVR ISP (USBtinyISP), but I found these, do you know any free program and tutorial I could use with it ? That maybe a dumb question but again PIC or AVR ?

P.S. Sorry if I am in the wrong forum section, since I dont know anything about PIC / PICAXE

Help troubleshooting JDM PIC programmer

Well, my PIC 16F690s arrived in the mail, and I soldered up an ICSP-only version of the JDM programmer to program them. Unfortunately, and not at all surprisingly, it doesn't work -- the PIC programming software (picprog, in linux) doesn't see the PIC:

As this is make a recycled robot week, I have decided to put together a little object avoiding robot using a few bits ripped out of an old miniature line following "fire engine" toy and a micro radio controlled car that broke.

What's one of those?

A Microchip PIC is an example of a microcontroller. Basically, a tiny but very complete computer in a single chip. The PICs have their own program memory, CPU and RAM. Most of them now have their own on-board clock, serial interfaces and ADCs as well. All in one little package. Faster processors (although less RAM) than my first home computer (a Sinclair ZX Spectrum).

i have bought one because its a "Starter Kit" so its for begginners right.
