Let's Make Robots!

new

Introducing myself

Hello everyone,
My name is Albert and I'm from the Netherlands.

Robot Rookie

I am new to everything about this site, pure ambition brought me here. Without trying to sound like a cliche its been a dream of mine to create a functioning robot. I have no prior experience in this field, I do think with practice I'll be able to build the skeletal structure but its the coding that worries me, if any one has any re-assuring advice or steps to take to help me work this out, i would be very apprieciative. As i am very new i will start at the very begining. I plan to make the 'Start here' robot then on to the robot arm.

Thank you for reading

Robot Combat League

A new TV show, Robot Combat League starts on SiFi channel. 8:00PM Arizona time but check your local listings.

Only caught a brief teaser last night but it looks pretty good. I just hope it isn't just hollywood's idea of fighting robots that are nothing more than men with vacuume-formed plastic body parts attached. We'll see:-)

New Guy to the Group

Hi all I am new to the Let's Make Robots group but an active member of the astromech community and looking for some additional resources and fellow robotics lovers.

Try this....

Take a look at this:

http://cubloc.com/product/01_01cb210.php

It LOOKS like an Arduino (but its not). Same basic Arduino feature set. (add a power switch and a little more neat stuff)

It runs ,,,,,, tada ,,,,,, BASIC!  (Don't run, shake or shiver!)

(It looks one HECK of a lot like P-BASIC (STAMP 2) but has more commands and floating point.)

The editor can be downloaded and looks nice, but nothing special.

The manual looks nice and well organized and is BIG, but again is nothing special.

Creating a new Arduino PCB in the Arduino IDE - Trials and Tribble-ations

If someone can help me out then I will write a tip/walkthough on this subject.

Quite often DAGU products use the ATmega168 MCU rather than the ATmega328 because they are a bit cheaper and 16K of program memory is often enough.

The problem is that ATmel no longer produce the ATmega168 20-AU which we had been using. They now produce the ATmega168PA which is almost identical but has a different device signature ID.

Where do I connect it?

I have an old droid eris and a RAD 2.0, I want to somehow conenct the droid to the motherboard of the RAD by soldering the end of it's usb connection cable but I am not sure where to do this. I have searched the web for a schematic but have been unable to find one. Any advice or resources are welcome.

New to robotics and need cheap.

Hello everyone,

MotorCityRobots.com

Myself and a local member of a hackerspace in Detroit recently started a new website devoted to robotics in Detroit. Right now the site is brand new, with really no content. So what I'm asking you to do is to sign up on the site, create a couple posts, etc just to generate some content. I'm not asking you to leave LMR, just check the site out (whats there anyways) and if you're proficient at drupal send me a PM, so you can help out the site too! Thanks.

Capacitors

Hi y'all, just joined LMR, fantastic site, lovin' it already . . .

I am a bit of a beginner to robotics, I mean I can program and all that, and make these things, but I know not how or why they work.

One thing I have been wondering is about capacitors:

When designing a circuit, how does one know where to place capacitors, or why to have them, or how they function in that position?

With this circuit in particular (from here: http://letsmakerobots.com/node/2074), why the caps?

those two in the top-right, why do they both need to be there?

New Robotic development board..

Hi LMR world... Developing my knowledges with incredible speed im getting closer and closer to my development board.... Ill be happy if i can get your support in this not so easy for me "marathon" from you...^_^

Getting ready

Hello everyone! :D

I'm new to the site and building robotsand got very inspired of all the robots on the site. :D

And it seems that making a simple bot is easier then i thought :O

After reading some of the tutorials here i decided to start making my own bot,so today i bought some tools that i needed.

Things like: Soldering iron (and a stand/holder), heatshrinking tubes, solderingtin and some wire. didn't find any jumpers tho :/

the new guy

hi there

i just entered my 1th year in bulgarian technic college and i`m really interested in robots and stuff . But Bulgaria is a smoll cuntry with no specialists in robotic engeniering and it comes at third year of the college , you guessed right :P that i cant wait that long and so i decade to ask you guys for help . if you guys send me diagrams and and help me out whit answers i think i can go far . thx :)

Parts Prices (In US Dollars)

Here is the analysis I have done so far. I didn't look everywhere, but I did learn 2 things.

  1. You can't buy everything from 1 place
  2. It is cheaper if you buy from outside of the US on some parts

Here goes my summary: (For all intents and purposes, when priced in £ double it for US dollars. It is a bit less than double, but after your credit card company charges a fee to convert the purchase it will be close to double given the current rate of exchange on 5/7/2008)
